SAGE and Uprising join forces to give teens a safe place to create, prose and perform

SAGE Community Arts and Uprising have collaborated to present Youth Open Mic Night.
Youth Open Mic Night was created to give Sheridan teens from the middle and high school a chance to share a song, prose, a poem, spoken word, rap or dance with a crowd of their peers in an open, safe and supportive environment.
Uprising Executive Director and co-founder Terri Markham joined SAGE Executive Director Jill Benson on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program to talk about the evolution of the collaboration and involving Sheridan’s youth.
Benson hopes the event inspires others to participate and express their creative side. The SAGE gallery has been transformed and the event is free. The coffee, bubble tea and food are free as well, thanks to Java Gypsy and Glazed and Confused.
SAGE and Uprising are also inviting youth to drop in and get creative with writing and instruction on Tuesday, March 1, or Thursday, March 3, at 4 to 5:30. Youth may take advantage of both mic workshop opportunities.
Youth Open Mic Night opens the doors at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 4. Mic opens at 7 p.m.
SAGE Community Arts is a community of artists and creators and Uprising is an organization that works to prevent and educate youth and adults about the realities of human trafficking.
