Johnson County Commissioner Bill Novotny and State Representative Barry Crago are working on bills to bring before the Wyoming Legislature that will address issues and concerns over mineral company bankruptcies.

Novotny discussed the legislation as a recent guest on Public Pulse, explaining that the current bills will hopefully be the end changes to state law recommended by a special task force.

Novoyny said the state has done great things with mineral taxes for years, but this new legislation will ensure that counties and the state do receive their share of the tax revenue from mineral production companies.

Novotny said the legislation is “a clear, simple solution. If you’re not paying (the taxes), then you’re not producing until you start paying again.”

“You are not producing” means that hundreds of families no longer have jobs with incomes. Are you thinking about that? Counties need to work with the energy companies to make something work and pull through these economic times.

Oil and gas producers need to be responsible and pay their taxes Paul. Regardless of the economic times responsible operators pay what is owed of them. It’s not too much to ask. Do you think when Anadarko owned all this CBM junk they tried to skip out on taxes?
