Help Needed from Hunters for Brucellosis Sampling
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking hunters to help collect blood samples from elk harvested in several northeast Wyoming hunt areas this fall as part of the efforts to track Brucellosis in the Cowboy State.
According to Game and Fish, Brucellosis, caused by Brucella abortus, can affect elk, bison, and cattle, sometimes leading to calf loss and potential transmission between species.
Elk hunters in hunt areas 1, 2, 113, 116, 117, 122, 123, and 126 may receive sample kits in the mail before their season opens. Hunters who receive a kit are encouraged to collect and submit a blood sample immediately after harvest, keep it cool, and return it to Game and Fish.
Those who provide usable samples will be entered into a prize drawing.
