Goose Creek Transit has served the Sheridan Community since Oct. 2019.
The GCT fleet provides rides to senior residents from their doorstep directly to their destination. But the service also provides public transportation around the City of Sheridan for anyone who needs a ride.
Initially the service had 28 stops. But since that time and with the addition of a second bus the stops have increased to 32 different locations in the city throughout the day with the route taking approximately one hour. Soon, five of those scheduled stops will have bus shelters to protect patrons from the elements.
Director of Goose Creek Transit Steve Ainslie wanted the design of the shelters to be specific to Sheridan. Initially, he believed GCT would only be able to construct three shelters at the most with the amount of grant money he was able to garner for the project. But as he told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, some generous folks stepped in to increase that number.
The Homer A. & Mildred S. Scott Foundation is one organization that stepped in to help with the funding of the shelter construction. With the help of the Scott Foundations and others, Ainslie hopes to have construction begin as soon as possible with the first shelter scheduled to be constructed at the stop located behind PetCo.
