The Dog & Cat Shelter and the Unleashed Foundation are co-hosting the inaugural “Hoot and Howl” event on Saturday, Sept. 26.

A 5-mile hike on the new Hidden Hoot Trail, the Hoot and Howl is a fundraiser to benefit the Dog & Cat Shelter’s partnership with the Unleashed Foundation to provide Emotional Support Animal and basic training for dogs that need help getting placed.

The hike starts at Hidden Hoot Trail near the soccer fields on West 5th Street. The hike is 5-miles long and considered to be a medium technical trail. Organizers encourage participants to bring their dog, but organizers remind hikers that all dogs must be leashed and no flex leashes are allowed on the hike.

Cost for pre-registration is $25. Pre-registration can be done online until Sept. 23, on the Unleashed Foundation’s Facebook page, the Dog & Cat Shelters Facebook page or website; dogandcatshelter.org or in person at The Sport Stop.  Same Day Registration is $35.

All registered entrants receive a t-shirt that will be mailed or can be picked up at the Dog & Cat Shelter after the event.

While speaking on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Unleashed Foundation founder Marian Eccles told listeners about the fundraiser.

The Unleashed Foundation will also draw a winner for the Unleashed Bike Raffle. The bike being raffled is a 2004 Intense Spyder with a Shimano XTR 27 speed drivetrain, Shimano XTR hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano XTR wheels, to name only a few custom parts. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and can be purchased by contacting the Unleashed Foundation on their Facebook page or by stopping by Sheridan Bicycle Company, located on Main Street. Ticket buyers are not required to be present to win when the drawing takes place at the Hidden Hoot trailhead at 10 a.m. Sept. 26, the day of the hike.

According to organizers, this will be a first come, first served staggered start event between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sept. 26.

The hike is not a timed event officials said. It’s all for fun and for the animals.
