Pat BlairSheridan County Library System trustees approved a budget of slightly under $1.5 million for the year that started July 1.
But Library Director Cameron Duff said that still has to be approved by Sheridan County commissioners.
The commissioners do have the option of rejecting the budget that trustees approved, and Duff said there were times in the past, before he became library director, that commissioners did in fact reject the budget presented to them.
And, he said, there are a lot of uncertainties with the 2020 budget.
In presenting the budget to trustees at their meeting Monday night, Duff said the library received about $1.14 million from the county general fund last year, and commissioners asked him to drop that by about $30,000 for this year. He said funds from the one percent optional tax were dropped by about 3 percent.
Duff said there were three key positions in the library system that were not filled, and another employee resigned this past week.
In other action Monday, trustees approved officers for fiscal year 2020-21. Shannon Anderson remains as chairman of the board. Other officers are Fran Wolfe, vice chair; Chad Saeler, treasurer; and Emily Hawkins, secretary.
