Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to report on the 2024 Traffic Management statistics for the City.

The Captain reported some highlights he and the Chief wished to share regarding state reportable accidents for 2024.

According to the SPD a state reportable accident results in damage that meets or exceeds $1,000, a vehicle is disabled, any accident that results in injury or any accident involving alcohol or other controlled substances.

The City of Sheridan did experience an increase in alcohol-related crashes in 2024.

The SPD also reported that an officer’s enforcement action should be consistent with the severity of the violation. Officers should generally issue citations for the following violations:

a. Reckless or careless driving;

b. Following too close;

c. Failure to maintain a proper lookout;

d. Failure to yield the right-of-way;

e. Disobeying a traffic signal or stop sign.

Both the Chief and the Captain wished to emphasize that the speed limit is the speed limit. Officers of the SPD will issue written warnings or citations to a driver exceeding those posted limits by any amount.
