Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse asking the public to take their time and drive defensively during the winter weather.

The Sheriff took the opportunity to thank the hard working crews that keep the roadways of Sheridan County safe, open and operating.

Many of the large snow plows clearing the roadways have blind spots that prevent the drivers from seeing other vehicles that may be too close. It is advisable to give these large pieces of machinery plenty of room to perform their duties safely.

Dominguez also advised taking it slow on the roads during harsh conditions. Recommending motorists travel at the speeds suitable for conditions, sometimes that may mean traveling much slower than posted speed limits.

31-5-301(a) Speed too Fast for Conditions

(a)  No person shall drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing. Consistent with the foregoing, every person shall drive at a safe and appropriate speed when approaching and crossing an intersection or railroad grade crossing, when approaching and going around a curve, when approaching a hillcrest, when traveling upon any narrow or winding roadway and when special hazards exist with respect to pedestrians or other traffic or by reason of weather or highway conditions.
