While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez alerted the public to a fast approaching deadline for applications requesting retrieval of property from or check cabins in areas affected by the Elk Fire.

In coordination with the Complex Incident Management Team a process has been developed to allow owners of recreational equipment such as campers to retrieve their personal property.

The Sheriff said deputies and possibly other law enforcement officials will be manning checkpoints along designated routes that must be stopped at by those retrieving property or checking cabins. Dominguez said this serves two purposes, to ensure that only property owners are traveling into these higher risk areas and to ensure everyone who goes up the mountain comes off the mountain safely.

To gain access to the closure area for this purpose, the following form must be filled out: https://forms.office.com/g/P7vrvgQW5d

The form will close at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.

The BNF reports that additional details regarding entry into the area, including timing of entry and process, will be emailed to those who will be allowed into the closure area.
