Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the Sheridan Police Department use of force statistics for the 2023 year.
During the course of the last year, (excluding non-service interactions with the public) officers with the Sheridan Police Department made 509 custodial arrests that resulted from investigations, made 298 arrests on warrants, issued 783 summons, answered 11396 calls for service and performed 7283 traffic stops. That amounts to 20,269 service interactions with the public.
According to a summary report, SPD officers used force to control suspect movements and to secure a scene during the course of 14 incidents in the 2023 year. This information amounts to just .069% of incidents in 2023 that required use of force by SPD officers.

Officers employed empty hand techniques seven times in 2023. During the course of the year pepper spray was not used. Officers fully deployed a taser cartridge two times in 2023 and utilized taser drive-stuns (use of taser without cartridge) three times. Officers did not use deadly force in 2023
