Ron RichterThe Sheridan City Council met for their second regular business meeting of October Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richer has the details.
A public hearing was held at Monday night’s Council meeting for an ordinance establishing proposed changes and amendments to the M-1 zoning district and the creation of a M-2 zoning district within the City. Following a number of public comments opposing the proposed ordinance, the Council, by a vote of 6-0, tabled the ordinance. City Planner Kelly Schroeder.
Other business from the meeting included the Council approving first reading of an ordinance adopting a Downtown Development District Overlay and a Downtown Business District Overlay. The Council also approved a resolution authorizing submission of an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant application to the U.S. Department of Energy. We’ll have more from the Council meeting in future stories.

Being a resident of an established neighborhood in close proximity to M-1 zoned areas, I would highly endorse the proposed amendments to the city zoning provisions. Some of the types of uses permitted in M-1 districts today are wholly incompatible with nearby homes and future land uses as set forth in the city’s official land use plan (2016).
