Before the big Thanksgiving meal, many Sheridan residents were working up their appetites and making sure those less fortunate had something to eat.

On Thursday morning (November 25th), several hundred runners and walkers participated in the 42nd annual Turkey Trot at Kendrick Park.

Participants had the choice of the one-mile course or a 2.8 miles course which was about 4 times around the park.

Event organizer Isaac Van Dyke says there used to be a cash entry fee to participate in the event but that changed a few years ago.

“We took it over about 3 years ago, the cross country teams from both the junior high and high school helped do it and this year we went back to the basics, we wanted it to be all free and we just wanted to get donations for the food group so that families can get meals.”

Last year’s Turkey Trot did not take place because of the COVID pandemic.
