Trial Continuance Granted

A pretrial conference was held Monday in Fourth Judicial District Court for a Sheridan County man charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

A request by Defense Attorney Ryan Healy to continue the trial of Chad Adsit was granted by District Court Judge Ben Kirven at Monday’s hearing. Healy requested the continuance due to the fact that he’s new to the case and his client’s trial was set to take place in a month. Judge Kirven rescheduled the four-day trial to begin Monday, December 14. Adsit was arrested on January 21, 2026 for sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree. The alleged crime occurred on June 12, 2025 at a residence in Sheridan County.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on June 27, 2025, a detective with the Sheridan Police Department was informed of a report made to the Department of Family Services involving the possible sexual abuse of a 7-year-old girl. A subsequent investigation led to Adsit’s arrest in January following an interview at the SPD. Sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree is punishable by not less than 25 years and not more than 50 years in prison.
