Hiring a new superintendent for SCSD#2 is a difficult decision. In November, Sheridan County School District No. 2 Superintendent of Schools Scott Stults announced his plan to retire at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.

Recently, the SCSD#2 Board of Trustees selected four finalists for the Superintendent position, Rebecca Adsit; Chase Christensen; Scott Cleland and Jennifer Strong.

On Wednesday, February 4, district staff, students, parents, and members of the public participated in a Community Forum. This forum was also live streamed, and members of the public are encouraged to submit questions and comments about the finalists.

In a previous story on February 5, the finalists gave their opening statements and the answers to the question, “As the new superintendent of a high performing district, how would you honor the people and programs that contributed to that success?”

In this story we will go into how the candidates answered the next two questions.

Mitch Craft, moderator, asked this question,

Jennifer Strong had this response,

Chase Christensen followed up with this comment.

Scott Cleland said that the state should model their programs after SCSD#2.

Rebecca Adsit said that teachers work hard to find the student’s strengths.

The next question concerned funding for the schools. Mitch Craft,

Christensen was the first speaker. He said this spoke to re-calibration, which has been a topic for every conversation whether inside the school or inside a cafe. He added that this happens every five years, and at some point the legislature will pass a bill to fund education.

Scott Cleland added that he would look into ways to bring in more students to bring in more funding.

Rebecca Adsit felt that they had to advocate for funding but they may have to,

Jennifer Strong talked about different sources of funding that might be accessed.

The next part of the story will have the candidates answers to the fourth question, and their closing statements.
