Sheridan Community Land Trust invites the public to February’s SCLT Explore History program, Powder River Expedition into Lakota Cheyenne Country, featuring historian and educator Donovin Sprague.

Sprague, who is Minnicoujou Lakota and Cheyenne and a faculty instructor at Sheridan College, will provide an overview of the Powder River Expedition through eastern Wyoming. His talk will explore the movement of the expedition and the encounters and events that unfolded as it entered Lakota and Cheyenne homelands, offering important historical and cultural context often missing from traditional narratives.

SCLT History Program manager Kevin Knapp,

Two identical sessions will be offered to make the program accessible to a wider audience. The first program will be held on Tuesday, February 10, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at The Hub on Smith, Sheridan.

The second will be held on Tuesday, February 17, from 10:30 a.m.–12:00 noon at the Tongue River Valley Community Center in Dayton.

SCLT Explore History programs are designed to help the community better understand the human stories connected to the land, past and present.

By centering Indigenous perspectives and lived experience, this program offers an opportunity to engage with regional history in a deeper and more meaningful way.

SCLT Explore History is free and open to all, and no registration is required. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and take part in this opportunity to learn, listen, and reflect on the history of the Powder River country.
