Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter Executive Director AJ Evans said 2025 was a good year at the shelter.

While appearing on Public Pulse, Evans said the surrender list at the shelter remains up to date. The surrender list is a list of members of the public wanting to surrender their animals.

To aid adoption efforts, shelters throughout the state participate in an inter-shelter animal transfer program. The program brings new dogs into the community and allows the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter to transfer animals to other locations, increasing their chances of being adopted and finding a forever home. When the Dog and Cat Shelter has the opportunity, staff gladly accept animals from other shelters.

Evans said she does not see a specific trend or reason for the positive adoption numbers but said she is grateful that so many community members found new family members in 2025.
