Pat BlairAlthough The Hub on Smith continues to provide many services to Sheridan County’s senior population, the building itself will remain closed at least through the end of this month.
Carmen Rideout, who’s executive director of the facility, said the Hub’s board will be looking at when on-site services can resume, but because the Hub serves those who are at highest risk from COVID-19, whatever is done will be done slowly and thoughtfully.
In the meantime, she said, the facility is active.
Rideout said the Hub is providing home delivered meals to between 350 and 400 people.
She said there is room to expand the service to more people. Those who are 60 years old or older and would like to receive home-delivered meals can call 672-6079 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Rideout said the Hub wants to open the building to the public as soon as possible, but care has to be taken to ensure that the staff and volunteers and the people they serve remain healthy and safe.
Because of that, she said, even though other businesses and facilities are opening around the area, the Hub on Smith might be one of the last places to open their doors.
