The Sheridan County Conservation District (SCCD) has been awarded authorization to access Tongue River at Kleenburn Road Recreational Picnic Area to conduct water quality monitoring in 2025 by the county commission in their Consent Agenda during the recent meeting.

In a letter to the commission, the conservation district explained that as part of their ongoing effort to improve water quality in the Tongue River watershed, they will be conducting water quality monitoring in the summer of 2025.

It further explained that the initial Tongue River Watershed Assessment was completed from 1996 to 1999, with subsequent interim monitoring happening every three years since 2003.

The commission, giving written permission for the monitoring, will allow the SCCD to conduct water quality monitoring, take photographs, and collect macro-invertebrates and perform habitat assessments.

Data will be summarized in a report, which will be provided to funding agencies, partners, and other interested parties, and the SCCD will retain copies of the water quality data.
