Sheridan Memorial Hospital now has a better idea of the health status, behaviors and needs of residents in Sheridan and Johnson Counties and a portion of southern Montana.

Earlier this year, the hospital, through a third party, conducted a community needs assessment through randomized phone interviews and online input.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer Mike McCafferty explains the purpose of the assessment.

“It helps us understand what the make-up of our population is compared to the region and the rest of the country in terms of health status. So, individual health status of people that live in our community. That’s really what it’s measuring against.”

Overall the populations served by the hospital scored better or similar to Wyoming residents as a whole, in 84% of the health categories examined in the assessment, and scored better in the US in 90% of the categories studied.

McCafferty adds hospital staff and leadership will utilize the information in the assessment, as well as other data, to guide decisions over the coming years.

The hospital is finalizing its 2023-2026 Strategic Plan which aligns closely with identified needs of the community and the hospital’s strategic priorities.
