Pat BlairThe new John C. Schiffer Collaborative School will open its doors for classes around the end of August.
Scott Stults, who’s an assistant superintendent with Sheridan County School District 2 and will assume duties as superintendent of the district on July 1, provided an update of the school construction at a joint meeting of School District 2 and college trustees this week.
Stults said the Schiffer school is expected to be substantially complete around mid-May.
During the meeting, Stults showed photos of the building currently under construction, including photos taken of what he called the “heart” of the school.
Ground was broken last June for the Schiffer school, which is the alternative high school for Sheridan County School District 2 and could, in future, serve Sheridan County’s other two school districts and, possibly, the Johnson County School District.
In the meantime, Sheridan County School District 2 has been conducting classes for Schiffer high school students in classrooms leased from Sheridan College on the college campus.
The Schiffer Collaborative School building is being constructed on land acquired in a trade from Sheridan College and located between the Watt Agricultural Center and the highway.
