Olivia Brogdon Of Big Horn MS To Compete In Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals: Shooting free throws runs in one family in the Big Horn area.
Sixth Grader Olivia Brogdon of Big Horn Middle School has qualified to compete in the 2024 Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals, which will take place on Saturday, April 20th in Chicago.
The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw shooting contest for children ages 8 to 13.
Contestants shoot 25 free throws, with the highest score winning, and a shoot-off will take place in the event of a tie.
From this past December through March, Brogdon competed in the girls 12-13 age category and has won at the school level, county, district, state, and recently the regional level, which consists of state champs from Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas.
She explains she first tried out shooting free throws as a fun activity, but then it grew on her and she developed a pattern.
Olivia’s older sister, Maggie, was last year’s national runner-up in the girls 12-13 age category.
At the recent regional competition, Olivia defeated a girl from Colorado, who was last year’s national champion in the 10-11 age category.
Wyoming Cowgirls Basketball: The Wyoming Cowgirls now know which team they will face in the third round of the WNIT, as well as when and where.
UW will host South Dakota this coming Friday, beginning at 6:30pm.
Last night the Lady Coyotes defeated Northern Arizona 79-65, while the Cowgirls have been waiting since Sunday.
The winner between the Cowgirls and USD will advance to the quarter-finals which will be played on Sunday or Monday, against the winner between North Dakota State and Minnesota.
Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball: UNLV plays in the NIT quarter-finals today at Seton Hall, beginning at 5pm Mountain Time.
In the NCAA tournament, San Diego State will take on top seed UConn tomorrow at 5:39pm in Boston.
Sheridan County HS Track and Field: All four Sheridan County High School teams will compete this Friday at Buffalo.
For Big Horn and Tongue River, this will be their first meet of the season.

The 2024 season started last week, when the LA Dodgers and San Diego played a 2-game series in South Korea.
All other teams start tomorrow.

Junior Hockey: This past weekend was the NA3HL’s Frasier Cup Championship Tournament.
Two of the 6 teams in that tournament were from the Frontier Division.
Helena won the division championship series, and Gillette qualified as the lone wild card.
The 2 teams ended up playing each other in the Frasier Cup Semi-Finals, with Helena winning 3-1, and then Helena ended up winning the championship 2-1 against the Northeast Generals from Attleboro, Massachusetts.
