Student-athletes from the Sheridan College Men’s and Women’s Rodeo Teams traveled to Gillette, Wyo. over the weekend to participate in the first spring rodeo of the Central Rocky Mountain Region 2023-24 season.
Three team members earned spots in the final round on Sunday (March 17th).
Barrel racer Faith Heim placed tenth in the first round, earning the final spot in the short go on Sunday.
With a time of 14.46 in the final round, Heim placed fifth and had a combined time of 29.03 on her two runs, which placed sixth in the average.
Teammate Sierra Hilgenkamp roped her calf in 3.1 seconds in the first round of breakaway roping, fast enough to earn her a spot in the final round on Sunday.
With a time of 4.1 seconds in the final round, Hilgenkamp placed fifth in the round and fifth in the average and is currently sixth in the region in breakaway roping.
On the Men’s Team, saddle bronc rider Jake Schlattmann made a 72-point ride in the first round, earning second place.
Schlattmann scored 68 points in the final round, which was a tie for fifth/sixth, and earned him second place in the average.
Schlattmann is currently tenth in the region in saddle bronc.
Other team members currently in the top ten in the region include Wyatt Phelps and Brodie Bades, who are are currently third and fifth, respectively, in bullriding.
With four rodeos left of the season, Sheridan College men’s team is currently eleventh in the region and the Women’s team is tenth.
Teams will travel to Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyo. March 22-24.
