Be mindful of the decisions/choices you make, because they can impact you and/or others as well.
Twenty years ago, on September 16, 2001, just five days after the events of 9-11, a drunk driver (Clint Haskins) collided head-on with another vehicle, containing eight members of the University of Wyoming cross-country team, killing all eight.
They have since been referred to as the Wyoming 8.
The incident happened on US Highway 287 between Laramie and the Colorado border.
Sheridan High Wrestling Coach Tyson Shatto’s cousin, Shane, was one of those eight.
Shane was the 1999 3A Boys Cross Country State Champ at Douglas and also competed on the school’s wrestling team.
He graduated in 2000, and was in his second year of being on the UW Cross Country team when the incident happened.
Tyson graduated in 2001 and is a 1999 3A Wrestling State Runner-Up as well as a 2000 and 2001 3A Wrestling State Champ.
He has spoken many times about what happened in 2001, in hopes that those who listen learn that one bad choice can have many consequences.
Haskins eventually pleaded guilty to eight counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.
