Sheridan College Rodeo: The spring portion of the College Rodeo season within the Central Rocky Mountain Region started this past weekend and the Sheridan College cowboys and cowgirls did well in the standings.

At this past weekend’s competition at Gillette, Reece Reder won the Bareback Riding, and Lonnie Dunn took 1st in the Saddle Broncs.

Teammate Jake Schlattman was 2nd.

Tyon Arneson won the long-go in Tie-Down Roping and placed 5th overall.

All of this helped the men’s team place 1st in the team standings for the weekend.

As for the season standings, Sheridan College is in 2nd place, which is where a team needs to be at the end of April to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo, which takes place in June.

Schlattman leads the Saddle Bronc standings, Christopher Nelson is in 3rd, Taiten Eaton at 4th and Dunn is 5th.

With his win, Reder moved up to 4th in the Bareback standings, and he still has 4 rodeos to go, in order to get himself into the top 3.

On the women’s side, Allie Huskey is 4th in the barrel racing.

The women’s team is 5th in the season standings.

The next competition is scheduled for this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington.

Sheridan High School Boys and Girls Soccer: Sheridan may not have been at 100%, but had more than enough for a 6-1 season opening win this past weekend.

The Broncs had a few players out on spring break, and a few recovering from basketball, but last weekend’s game was a non-conference contest.

Senior Evan Ballew scored twice in the first 12 minutes of the game and says this game was an opportunity for other players to get some playing time.

Sheridan is last year’s 4A Boys State Runners-Up.

As for the girls, they delivered a 5-nothing shutout in their game this past weekend at Buffalo.

Last year, the Lady Broncs won the regional tournament, and had a record of 15-0 with 1 tie going into the state tournament, then lost 2 games and ended the season with a crash.

Senior Parker Treide says one game in, and she likes what she’s seen so far.

Sheridan starts 4A East Conference play on Friday vs. Cheyenne South and on Saturday against Laramie.

The girls play on the road and the boys at home.

Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won last night at home vs. Detroit 6-5.

Troy Johnson hit a 2-run home run and T.J. Rumfield added a solo shot of his own.

The Rocks and Tigers are scheduled to play each other again today, starting at 1:10pm

This is the last day of the exhibition season for Colorado.

After today, the Rockies will have 2 days off, and then start the regular season with a 3-game series at Miami this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The home opener is scheduled for one week from Friday, April 3rd against Philadelphia.
