Troopers Drop Both Conference Games At Home Vs. Cheyenne/Sheridan Girls Golf At National Meet/Rockies Shut Out Dodgers

Troopers Lose Both Games At Home vs. Cheyenne Post 6 – Things did not go well on the baseball diamond for the Sheridan Troopers on Monday night.
Cheyenne Post 6 paid a visit to Thorne-Rider Stadium for a pair of conference games and the 2-time defending state champs made themselves at home winning 6-0 and 10-1.
Before last night the Troopers had not played since Monday of last week and manager Ben Phillips says the down-time hurt, but he’s not worried, because the schedule of games is about to pick-up again.
Sheridan is back in action this weekend at a tournament in Billings.
They play Thursday at noon against the host team, the Billings Royals and then again at 2:30pm against Loveland, Colorado.
On Friday, the Troopers play Jackson at 2:30pm.
Saturday’s and Sunday’s opponents and start times will be dependent on results from Thursday and Friday.
The next home games for Sheridan is on Thursday, July 14th against Gillette.
The Sheridan Jets are back in action tonight at 5 and 7 o’clock at Lovell, and will be back at home on Thursday against Powell.

Girls High School Wrestling A Wyoming Varsity Sport: This year marks 50 years when Title 9 was created.
It prohibits people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance
When the new school year begins, Wyoming will have the same number of boys and girls varsity athletic sports.
Girls wrestling recently received the green light to be a varsity sport.
In order for a sport to become a varsity sport, a minimum of 8 schools must convince the Wyoming High School Activities Association Board of Directors, to allow it to be.
Earlier this year, the minimum was met, and at least 3 schools have since joined since then, as Buffalo and both Gillette schools have announced they will field a girls wrestling team in the upcoming winter sports season.
WHSAA Commissioner Ron Laird says there’s been a number of girls wrestlers in the past competing with the boys, but sometimes an inter-gender match-up was a bit awkward.
Laird adds for starters there will only be one class of girls wrestling.
The Boys State Wrestling Meet is normally a 2-day event.
The Girls State Meet will also be a 2-day event and will start the day before the boys.
The Girls Championship matches will go on at the same time as the boys semi-finals, which marks the end of the first day of the boys state meet.
Rockies Blank Dodgers – After a 1-5 road trip, the Colorado Rockies returned home and got back on the winning track.
Jose Iglesias hit a 2-run home run, and Chad Kuhl pitched a complete game 3-hit shut out, to lead the Rockies over the LA Dodgers 4-0.
Colorado is 32-42 on the season and in the last place in the NL West, but are 1 game behind Arizona for 4th.
The 3-game series at home vs. the Dodgers resumes today at 6:40pm.
