Sharon Ann Lucas, 77, of Sheridan, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at her home on January 9, 2026.

Sharon was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1948 to her parents’ Mary Elizabeth Bates and Oscar Eugene Bates. Sharon graduated from Riverton, Wyoming in 1966 and met the love of her life, Jerry, in October of 1965 on a blind date. They were inseparable and married on April 1 of 1966. They moved to California while Jerry went to Hospital Corps School. When he was drafted to Vietnam, Sharon moved back to Riverton, where she had their first of two children, Shannon. Five years later, they had their second child, Jeramy. They lived in Riverton until 1985 when they moved to Sheridan. There she worked at the hospital, Sheridan Eye Care, Dr. Batty, and Dr. Mussell’s office.

Those who knew Sharon knew her as selfless, kindhearted, genuine, adventurous, and loved by her family and many others that came to know her. She enjoyed the outdoors, except for fishing and hunting, but loved watching the bears. She enjoyed supporting her kids and later her grandkids in their extracurricular activities.

One of the best memories happened in 1967 when she ALMOST got kicked off the Navy commissary in San Diego, California for showing her knees.  A marine guard told her she had to roll her pants down to cover her knees, Sharon did as she was told. Once she was inside and around the corner, she rolled her pants back up, but there was a big, round mirror on the ceiling and the guard caught her rolling them back up. If she didn’t roll them back down, she was going to get kicked out. Another core memory was when she couldn’t find Jeramy and went looking. She finally went out to the pasture and found him propped up, sleeping on his calf, Peanuts. There was time when Shannon thought she needed to catch her mom and not a fish. While walking down a creek, Jerry had Jeramy in the backpack, and Shannon was walking behind her mom dangling her fishing pole out in front of her. Five seconds later, Shannon hooked her mom in the back.

Sharon Lucas was preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister Cathy, and survived by her husband Jerry Lucas, daughter Shannon Gropp, and son Jeramy Lucas (Kathy); grandkids Brock Rocovits (Trinity), Tiffany Klussman (Austin), Shaye Roberts (Chris), Chelsea Gropp (Allan), Addison Lucas (Ryan), and Justyce Lucas; and 11 great grandkids.

Sharon will be missed by many and there will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 2:30 P.M., at 141 Decker Road at Dr. Batty’s barn.

Donations to honor Sharon can be made to the local Demnetia Society, Cancer Society, and ALS. Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
