Gythel Ann Bates
Our beautiful Gigi passed away December 22, 2025, peacefully at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and close friends.
Born August 31, 1927, in Spencer County, Indiana, the only child of Guy Thomas Parker and Pauline Crowder, Gythel Ann grew up along the wide span of the Ohio River Valley, married Harold Bates in 1943, and had one son, Larry, in 1944.
Living almost a century created many memories, most centered around support of family. From her roots in Hatfield, Indiana, to the deserts of Arizona and the mountains of Wyoming, Gigi was always there with a hearty laugh, huge smile, and warm hug. A maker of the best cinnamon toast and tea, and never failing to sing “Happy Birthday” on your special day, she deeply loved her family and close friends.
Gythel is survived by her son, Larry Bates of Sheridan, Wyoming; grandson Kevin (Jill) Bates of Sheridan, Wyoming; granddaughter Trecia (Jerry) Brantz of Osburn, Idaho; great-grandchildren Colton Bates, Carson Bates, Sierra Brantz, Logan (Kimmie) Brantz, and Jake (Alisa) Brantz; and great-great-granddaughter Braelynn Brantz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Harold R. Bates; and her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wilhelmus Bates.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sandy Kassen and the many caregivers who took care of Gigi and loved her as their own. Your assistance helped her remain in her own home, just where she wanted to be, and she loved you all.
Gythel will return to her family roots, and inurnment will take place at the James Parker Cemetery, named after her grandfather, in Hatfield, Indiana, beside her loving husband.
