Sheridan COVID numbers, SMH gets a little reprieve with injunction

Sheridan County added five lab confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total count to 4,438 lab confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

A -1 probable case has been reported. That total now stands at 1,371. 

Currently there are 96 active cases in the Sheridan County Community and 57 deaths of Sheridan County residents attributed to COVID-19.

There are currently seven patients in the hospital fighting the virus. COVID-19 Public Information Officer Jennifer Graves reports nine residents have recovered from the virus.

Sheridan Memorial Hospital has received some reprieve in the form of a federal injunction when a federal judge on Monday blocked President Joe Biden’s administration from enforcing a coronavirus vaccine mandate on thousands of health care workers in Wyoming and nine other states that had brought the first legal challenge against the requirement.

During a briefing, hospital Chief Executive Officer Mike McCafferty expressed his relief after a month of concern for some much needed hospital staff.

The court order, found here, said that the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid had no clear authority from Congress to enact the vaccine mandate for providers participating in the two government health care programs for the elderly, disabled and poor.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists Sheridan County’s level of community transmission of COVID-19 as HIGH.Find more COVID-19 information at www.sheridancounty.com/covid-19/.
