The Sheridan Police Department has experienced a 29% increase in incidents for the month of June.

According to Sheridan Police Department Captain Tom Ringley, the SPD responded to 804 incidents in the month of June. An average month for the last three years is 614 incidents. That’s a 29% incident increase for the month of June, according to Ringley.

According to Ringley, all activity will increase with the warm weather, more travel and influx of visitors to the area. While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Ringley informed listeners that July may be just as busy.

Many thefts can be prevented with a little preparation, Ringley said. And the Captain shared some suggestions to help keep property safe.

–Always lock the doors to your residence, vehicles and outer buildings.

–Know your neighbors.  Keep an eye out for your neighbors and let them keep an eye out for you.

–Do not post holiday plans or pictures on social media until you are back home.

–Do not let random people who show up at your home inside.

–Do not let your mail and newspapers pile up when you leave town for an extended period.

The last time SPD came close to this many calls during the month of June was in 2017. SPD responded to 794 calls, during which SPD had 21 patrol officers working full time. This year, SPD had only 16.
