JCSD1 Board Considering Nominations for Golden Bell Award

At their September meeting, the Board of Trustees for the Johnson County School District discussed the Wyoming School Board Association’s Golden Bell Award and asked members to consider someone to be nominated by the board.
The Golden Bell Award is awarded to those people who have made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of education in the state.
Criteria for the award includes someone who has been a school board member,educator, or a lay-person that has made a significant contribution to the advancement of education on a local, regional, and state-wide basis.
The contributions to education must have implications for the improvement of education beyond the local district.
Applications must be made to WSBA by October 5th, and the board will meet to discuss a nominee before then.
Past Johnson County Golden Bell Recipients include J. M. Maggard in 1965; Jim Harlan in 1982; Gerald Carroll in 1994; Jack Tarter in 2005; Don Tavegie in 2008; and Susan Palmerlee in 2011.
