Natural History Museum of Wyoming Grand Re-Opening

It was all about dinosaurs this past Saturday at Sheridan’s Natural History Museum.

At the fund-raising gala held in December, two dinosaurs were unveiled and the rights to name them were auctioned off. The names, along with the winning bidder, were first displayed at the grand opening on Saturday.

There was a ribbon cutting by the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce
Ambassadors, and tours were given through the museum. One tour guide was Tristan Schroeder, a junior at SHS, who volunteers at the museum

Schroeder mentioned he would be interested in taking a two-year paleontology course at Sheridan College if they chose to offer one. He said it would help build on the geology and biology courses that are required. Hebert said he had mentioned the course at the college, and it was up to college whether or not they decide to offer it to students.

Schroeder also helped to get the museum ready for the re-opening, according to Director Tom Hebert.

John Venton, who was a member of Sheridan’s Gem and Mineral club, that started in the Mohns Center, attended the opening. He said it had come a long way over the years.

Venton purchased the right to go on a dinosaur dig at the museum gala, but he decided to donate it to a family in Sheridan, as he has been on several digs and knows how much fun they can be.

Hebert felt that the community support was great for the museum.

The event was well attended, and the museum will be open for the rest of the year. The museum is located on the Sheridan College campus in Mohns Science Center, located at 1 Whitney Way. Hours are Monday through Saturday 9 am to 1 pm.
