For those who live the life of a farmer, rancher, or for those who have experience in the rodeo circuit, it can be difficult for some to leave their horse behind to go to college, but that will soon change in the Sheridan area.

Sheridan College has announced it will be building horse stalls both in the Agripark area and on Arena Drive located on the south edge of the main campus.

The College’s rodeo team currently has 42 committed rodeo competitors, with many of them in the timed events, but there’s only 18 stalls at the Agripark.

College President Dr. Walter Tribley says construction will start soon on an additional 40 stalls on the northwest side of the property, but the outdoor arena will have to be removed to make it possible.

Those stalls, which will be for rodeo team members only, should be ready before practice starts for the next college rodeo season, around late August or early September.

On the flip side, the College plans to bring back the old outdoor arena area on Arena Drive, and build about 20 stalls there as well, for those who have a horse, but don’t compete, yet they don’t want to part ways with their 4-legged friend.

Dr. Tribley adds the reason behind the projects is to show that the College values the rodeo, ranching and equine culture.

“What we will be doing in the future, when that outdoor arena is built and we have stalls there, we’ll be allowing students that come stay in the dorms, take a full time load, to have a stall provided for them. They can park their truck and their horse trailer near-by and come to college with their horse.”

Dr. Tribley says a time-line for construction of the new horse stalls on Arena Drive has not yet been determined.
