Celebrating its 7th season, an organization that raises funds to help children suffering from medical conditions has expanded over the hill from Cody to Sheridan.

Compete for a Cause is a talent show with the goal of helping a child who needs some support. In November of 2024, Founder and President of Compete for a Cause, Brook Grant, called into Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to ask the residents of Sheridan to nominate children they feel would need the support of Compete for a Cause.

Recently, Grant has announced the organization received many nominations and has named the recipient of the 2025 Sheridan Compete for a Cause talent show.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Pompe disease is a rare, inherited disorder that affects the muscles and heart. It’s caused by a genetic mutation (specifically in the GAA gene) which reduces or eliminates the body’s ability to break down glycogen, a stored form of sugar. This leads to a buildup of glycogen in the body’s cells, particularly in the muscles and heart.

With a recipient chosen, now it’s time to find talent for the show. There is no registration fee to participate in the talent show. According to Grant the majority of the funds come from sponsorships and donations as well as a few other avenues and 100% of the proceeds will go to help the Scheeler family.

Family friendly talents of all kinds are welcome. Auditions must be done by recorded video. Submit audition tapes/videos of the individual performing the talent to compete4cause@gmail.com, by Feb. 1. Those wishing to volunteer to help may also send an email to the same address.

The Sheridan edition of Compete for a Cause will be April 5, in Kinnison Hall at Sheridan College.
