cvannoyOn Tuesday night, July 9, following the stick horse races, the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and the Sheridan WYO Rodeo Board held their annual boot kick-off at Whitney Commons Park to kick-start WYO Rodeo Week, 2024.
Participants competed to see who could “kick off” their boot the farthest. The event was live streamed on Sheridanmedia for the first time.
There was a selection of 20 county songs that mentioned boots to add to the fun. Featured were such songs as, “These Boots are Made for Walkin‘”.” “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” and others.
There were several competitors in the event, including one young man who was visiting Sheridan from Australia, who the announcer commented, should have won a “Contestant from Farthest Away” award.
One of the winners in the women’s 18 and over category, Megan Sessions, had this to say,

Ages 9-12 Girls & Boys: First place – Brody Connors; Second place – Alejandra Trocha; Third place – Lois Johnson
Ages 13-17 Girls: First place – Camryn Cooper; Second place – Aubrey Hartley; Third place – Paige Kuntz
Ages 13-17 Boys: First place – Finn Stalick; Second place – Cole Connors;
Third place – Derek Kuntz
Ages 18 & Up Women: First place – Megan Sessions; Second place – Taylor Townsend; Third place – Kaycen Townsend.
Ages 18 &Up Men, First place – Brayden Thomas; Second place – Zach Heid; Third place – Riley Sessions
First place winner in the men’s category, Braydon Thomas, added this about the boot kick off.
A total of $1,330 in Chamber Bucks was awarded to the winners. The 2024 Boot Kick Off was sponsored by Barney & Graham, LLC.
The boot kickoff is the official start of WYO Rodeo Week in Sheridan. A large crowd attended the event, and the categories were full of contestants willing to try their luck.
