Sketching in the Natural World

On Thursday, August 24, the SCLT Discovery Session: Plain & Simple Plein Air Sketching program was filled with over 40 artists wanting to learn more about sketching in the natural world.

Local artist Randy Stout said there were a lot of ‘talented people’ who attended the session. He talked about the different mediums he used to create his artwork, and which one was the best for what the artist wanted to achieve.

The afternoon was warm and sunny and there was no wind, and the Malcolm Wallop Park offered several interesting natural features to sketch. Sketchbooks s were provided at no charge to registrants, and each attendee brought their favorite mediums for sketching.

Carl Wilson and his wife, Renee, Sheridan residents, attended the session, and Carl said this about the class.

He added he would return if there was another program of this type offered.

Plein (Plain) air painting is about getting out-of-doors, out of the studio, to experience painting and drawing in the natural landscape.

Stout talked about sketching in nature and what he enjoyed about it.

This Discovery Session is hosted by SAGE Community Arts and SCLT.

The next SCLT event will be the In Bloom Fundraiser to be held on September 9 at 6 p.m. at the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College, and the Eatons Dude Ranch Tour on September 12. Those attending will meet at 10 a.m. at the Hub on Smith. See the SCLT website for more details.
