Wyoming Job And Payroll Numbers Increase From 1st Quarter 2022, To 1st Quarter 2023

2023 got off to a good start in terms of jobs and payroll.

According to new numbers from the Research and Planning Division of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, from 1st quarter of 2022, to 1st quarter of 2023, Wyoming added more than 6,300 jobs (2.4% increase), and total payroll was up $386.8 million (up 10.7%).

The biggest job increases were in mining which was up 8.0% and substantial growth was seen in a number of other sectors such as manufacturing (up 5.3%), wholesale trade (up 4.7%) and professional and business services (up 4.3%).

There were very few job drops with the biggest one happening in retail trade (down 0.6%).

Sheridan County was up 2.5% in job numbers and was up 12.7% in payroll from first quarter 2022 to first quarter 2023.

Johnson County was up 2.8% and 9.7% respectively.

The county with the biggest job percentage increase was Uinta at 5.2%, while Weston County had the biggest payroll percentage increase at 18.8%.

Only 4 counties in Wyoming reported job percentage losses in the first quarter of 2023, and 2 of those 4 also reported a payroll percentage decrease.

Niobrara County was down 4.1% in the jobs category, while Carbon County was down 29.2% in payroll.
