Sheridan County Commissioner Chair Christi Haswell and Commissioner Allen Thompson feel confident in the preparation for possible flooding this spring.

Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator Jesse Ludikhuize said they have had to replace piles of sand and sandbags at the locations already this year, which is a good sign that residents have begun to prepare for possible flooding. Sheridan County has already put out over 400 tons of sand and 15,000 sandbags this year.

The county has also added more sand and bags to the pile to ensure there is enough for every resident who may need them. Haswell also said although she is ready for spring to arrive, she does hope it does not warm up too quickly on the mountain.

Ludikhuize said it is a labor intensive burden to prepare for possible flooding and to help those residents who are not physically able to fill those on their own, he will be holding a sandbagging event.

Sand and the sandbags will be available for as long as Emergency Management feels a possible flooding risk exists.
