Sled at Sports Lure in Buffalo

Enjoy sledding? On Sunday, February 12, beginning at 10:00 am and running until noon, join Trail End State Historic Site for a morning of good old-fashioned family fun at the annual Family Sled Day!

When the Kendrick family lived at Trail End, mainly during the 1920’s, sledding was a fun winter past time for kids.

The Flexible Flyer and other sleds were popular Christmas gifts for both boys and girls, as we see in this ad from the Sheridan Commerical Company in the The Sheridan Enterprise, December 17, 1918. – Do Your Christmas Shopping Early A large stock of staple and useful articles from Radiolite Watches, Flash Lights, Skates, Wagons and Flexible Flyer Sleds. A large assortment of Flexible Flyer and Fire-Fly Sleds on display. These sleds are made by S.L. Allen and Co., of Philadelphia. Because of their improved construction these sleds are the most satisfactory on the market. Steel front bars and front rails makes easier and more efficient steering and greatly strengthen the sled. – The Sheridan Commercial Company.

Sleds cost between $3 and $5 in 1920, which is equivalent to around $70 in today’s money.

So, enjoy some good, old-fashioned fun. Everyone is encouraged to bring their sleds, and Trail End will furnish the hot chocolate.

Saucer sleds on display at Sports Lure in Buffalo

The event will take place on the east lawn of the Kendrick Mansion, and it free, and family friendly. It is a part of the Sheridan Winter WYO Rodeo activities.
