A Sheridan man involved in a 2-vehicle collision one month ago in Billings is asking social media users to back off when it comes to making comments about those that caused the wreck.

When word first spread in Billings about the wreck involving Kurt Layher and his family, and according to Billings Police Officers, it was caused by a teenager who was cited for speeding and not having insurance, many people went to social media sites to post comments about the incident.

Layher says most of the negative comments were vilifying the teenager involved and adds those comments are not doing anything to make the situation better for anyone.

“I’m not saying that I don’t agree with those comments, but they don’t do any good. They’re not helping the person who’s writing them, they’re not going to affect those teenagers, the ones that were laughing and joking after the accident and again in the emergency room. Saying those things isn’t going to help. It’s just going to muddy the waters, and create animosity where there doesn’t need to be.”

Since the individual who is accused of causing the collision is a minor, his name can not be released to the public or the media, unless prosecutors choose to charge him as an adult, if and when they file any charges.
