cvannoyThe Fetterman Fight took place on December 21, 1866. The day started out fairly warm and sunny, but by the time the battle started a blizzard had blown into the area.
Every year the Fort Phil Kearny and the Bozeman Trail Association hosts the annual tour of the battlefield with historian Bob Wilson.
However, this year with snow, wind, and extraordinarily dangerous temperatures expected, the Fetterman Fight Anniversary Talk will not take place on December 21st this year.
The First Day Hike at Fort Phil Kearny is still planned for Jan. 1, 2023. The hike is a one-mile walk around the parade grounds and will start at 1 p.m. Hikers will meet at the main parking lot near the stockade. Hot drinks will be provided after the hike in the Interpretive Center by the FPK/BTA.
In addition, there will be a drawing for a free Wyoming State Park’s annual daily use pass at the end of the hike.
