Wyoming has a new Secretary of State, but he’ll only be on the job for about 3 months.
Governor Mark Gordon has appointed Karl Allred of Uinta County to the position.
He will hold the position until January 2nd, 2023 and replaces Ed Buchanan, who resigned earlier this month, after being appointed as a District Court Judge for the Eighth Judicial District in Torrington.
Allred was one of 3 candidates nominated for the position by the Wyoming Republican Party this past Saturday (September 25th).
The other two candidates were Bryan Miller of Sheridan County and Marti Halverson.
State Representative Chuck Gray of Casper won the Republican nomination for the Secretary of State position in the August primary.
He is running unopposed in the November General Election, and unless a write-in candidate succeeds, he will take over in January.
Allred marks the second of 5 elected constitutional officers that have been appointed to a position this year, as a result of the predecessor resigning.
The other appointee is Brian Schroeder who is the Wyoming State Superintendent Of Public Instruction.
He replaced Jillian Balow who resigned in January to take the same position in Virginia.
