On Tuesday, July 12 at The Hub on Smith from 10:30 until noon, the SCLT Explore History will feature Sheridan WYO Rodeo. On Tuesday, July 19, the program will be held again at the TRVCC in Dayton, from 10:30 until noon.

Carrie Edinger, SCLT Historical Program Manager, will present WYO Rodeo history from a start-up, independent first-class rodeo in 1931 through the challenges of WWII.

Celebrate Sheridan WYO Rodeo history with the Sheridan Community Land Trust, The Hub on Smith and Tongue River Valley Community Center during Rodeo Week.

On July 12 only, in conjunction with the WYO Rodeo Program, local historian Judy Slack will present a brief history of All-American Indian Days that was held in Sheridan from 1953-1984. Judy has the honor of presenting this program at the Hemmingway Conference the following week.

Both dates will have a special showing of Gregory Nickerson’s documentary “No Indians or Dogs Allowed? Sheridan, Wyoming and the Miss Indian America Pageant.”

Explore History programs offer open conversation for community members to share their memories or historical information about these sites. Both programs are free to attend.

Explore History is generously funded by the NextFifty Initiative.
