A 22-mile stretch of highway in the Big Horn Mountains that leads to Medicine Wheel and various campsites is now open to motor vehicle traffic.
This past Friday (May 27th), WYDOT snowplow crews officially opened the gates on US Highway 14A at Burgess Junction.
The road is closed seasonally during the winter, because too much snow in the area combined with too little traffic, makes snow plowing efforts impractical.
Elsewhere in Wyoming, US Highway 212 over the Beartooth Pass, as well as Dunraven Pass inside Yellowstone National Park are now open for the summer.
In Southern Wyoming, a 13-mile stretch of state highway 130 between Centennial and Saratoga, and a 22-mile stretch of state highway 70 between Encampment and Baggs is also open.
Bad weather could force crews to temporarily re-close any of those roads until it is safe to open again.
