Business Council Offers Help to Preserve Historic Buildings

Owners of historical commercial buildings located in traditional downtown districts may be eligible for funds to help preserve those buildings.

A pre-application to determine eligibility for money from the Historic Architecture Assistance Fund – called HAAF – is due by Feb. 1, with the final application due on March 15.

HAAF funds are to be used for projects such as a building assessment, structural analysis, analysis of building code and ADA requirements and schematic design of facade and signage. If funds are awarded, an architect will be assigned to work with the successful applicant. The intent of the funds is to help the building owner in a first step in a preservation project. HAAF doesn’t provide funds for physical repairs, purchase of building materials or work by contractors.

HAAF is available through Wyoming Main Street, which is a program of the Wyoming Business Council. Wyoming Main Street assists member communities with downtown revitalization efforts through technical assistance and grant funding.
