Sheridan Girls Golf Team Win State Qualifier Meet At Cheyenne; Boys 2nd; Tongue River Wins Home Meet

Led by Samantha Spielman, the Sheridan Girls Golf Team had golfers place 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th, to easily win the 4A East State Qualifier Meet at Cheyenne.

Meanwhile the Sheridan boys had golfers place 4th, part of a 3-way tie for 5th, and 8th, and had to settle for the 2nd place, by 4 strokes behind Cheyenne Central.

Back home at Kendrick Golf Course, Hayden Tellez of Big Horn placed first in the boys individual competition, but Tongue River had golfers place 2nd, in a tie for 3rd and 5th to win the boys team title.

Elizabeth Holbrook of Big Horn was 2nd in the girls competition, while Tongue River had golfers place 4th, 5th and 6th, to win the team event by 1 stroke ahead of Sundance.

The next meet for all Sheridan County golf teams is the state meet on Friday and Saturday, September 17th and 18th.

Sheridan will compete at Jackson, while Big Horn and Tongue River will compete at Thermopolis.

The Sheridan boys golf team are the defending 4A state champs, while Samantha Spielman of Sheridan is the defending Girls 4A Individual champ.

Both TR golf teams have won the state title one time in school history, with the boys winning in 2006, and the girls won in 2016.
