Morning Sports: September 28, 2026
Sheridan HS Football: All good things must come to an end and for the Sheridan High School football team, it came to an end almost as soon as Friday’s game started.
The Broncs were down 10-nothing before the offense ran its first play, and things went further downhill from there, as Natrona County would win 38-zip, to end a Wyoming High School State Record 59-game winning streak.
Sheridan’s last loss was a little more than 5 years ago, and the last time the team was shutout was in the 2014 playoff semi-finals, also at Natrona County.
The other streak that ended was a 22-game road win streak which is tied for the 2nd longest road win streak in state history.
The streak that is still alive for the Broncs is their home winning streak which is at 36 games, and the team will look to keep that one going this coming Friday, when they take on Laramie.
Big Horn/Tongue River/Buffalo HS Football: Big Horn went on the road and blanked Moorcroft 69-zip.
The Rams next play at Torrington.
Tongue River lost at Wheatland 35-6.
The Eagles next play at home vs. Moorcroft.
Buffalo lost at Lander 31-7.
The Bison next play at home vs. Douglas.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Volleyball: Sheridan went 3-2 at the Casper Invitational this past weekend and made it to the semi-finals of the gold bracket.
The Lady Broncs are next scheduled to play on Thursday at home vs. Big Horn, Friday at Cheyenne South and on Saturday at Laramie.
BH went 4-1 in Casper and lost in the other gold bracket semi-final game.
The Lady Rams visit Sheridan on Thursday, and are at home on Saturday against Sundance.
Tongue River split home games over the weekend, winning vs. Burns and lost against Torrington.
The Lady Eagles next play on Friday at Worland and on Saturday at home vs. Buffalo.
BHS had the same results against Torrington and Burns as TR did.
The Lady Bison next play on Thursday at home vs. Douglas, and visit Dayton on Saturday.
Kaycee ended up going 3-1 in games played this past Saturday at the Lusk Invitational.
The Lady Bucs next play on Saturday at home vs. Rock River.

Sheridan HS Tennis: Sheridan placed 3rd and the girls were 9th at the State Meet this past weekend in Gillette.
Ben Bujans is the state champ in boys #1 singles.
It is only the third time in school history that has happened, with the last happening in 2012.
Several other Broncs finished 3rd in their respective brackets.
Those were Blake Ligocki in boys #2 singles, Christian Laman and Lawson Woodrow in boys #2 doubles, as well as Andrew Wei and Michael Hodnett in the boys #3 doubles.
On the girls side, Madeline and Camden Miller were 4th in #3 doubles.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Cross Country: The Sheridan varsity team ran in a meet in Mesa, Arizona, while Tongue River and Buffalo were in Worland.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs are next scheduled to compete in Miles City, Montana, while everyone else will be in Cody.
Sheridan/Buffalo HS Girls Swimming and Diving: Sheridan won its own 8-team invitational at the Junior High School swim pool this past weekend.
Hannah Mowry as well as the Lady Broncs relay teams each won 2 events, while Liah Fjell won 1 race as well.
Sheridan is next scheduled to swim on Friday at Gillette and on Saturday at Natrona County.
Buffalo is scheduled to swim on Friday at home vs. Newcastle and on Saturday at Douglas.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks split their first 2 home games of the season, losing on Friday 4-3 in overtime vs. Bozeman, but rebounded to shut out the Icedogs on Saturday 6-zip.

Sheridan College Rodeo: Sheridan College hosted the Pat Hamilton Memorial this past weekend at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.
Koy McAllister won the steer wrestling competition.

College Football: The Wyoming Cowboys are now 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference, thanks to a 27-10 win at home this past weekend against Hawaii.
UW Quarterback Tyler Hughes was 17 of 23 passing for 204 yards, but he didn’t throw any touchdowns and was sacked 4 times.
The touchdowns all happened on the ground as Markell Holman ran the ball in twice and Samuel Harris provided an extra for insurance.
Erik Sandvik kicked 2 field goals, and the Brown and Gold were 5 for 5 in red zone opportunities.
The Cowboys are next scheduled to play this coming Saturday on the road against conference newcomer North Dakota State.
Meanwhile, Montana State ran their record to 5-0 with a 28-14 win at home vs. Northern Arizona.
Sheridan High School grad Colson Coon ran all over the place, as he picked up 199 yards.
Dane Steel caught 3 passes for 34 yards.
The Bobcats are on the road this coming Friday against Idaho.
Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos trailed 16-zip at halftime last night at home against the LA Rams, and came back to win 30-26.
Bo Nix helped engineer a 10 play 65 yard drive and finished the job himself with 48 seconds to go.
He was 17 of 34 passing for 186 yards and had 2 touchdown tosses, aside from the one he scored himself.
Catching the TD’s were Pat Bryant and Nate Adkins.
The defense helped as well as Talanoa Hufanga snagged a 66 yard pick-6.
Rams QB Matt Stafford threw for 390 yards, but he was sacked 4 times and picked off twice.
Penalties also hurt LA, as they were flagged 13 times for 91 yards.
Denver is now 2-1 on the season and is next scheduled to play this coming Sunday at San Francisco.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche concluded the pre-season this past weekend with a 5-2 win on Friday at home vs. Winnipeg and a 2-zip loss on Saturday at Utah.
The Avs start the regular season this coming Wednesday at home vs. Los Angeles.
Colorado Rockies Baseball/MLB Playoffs: The Colorado Rockies concluded the 2026 season by losing 2 out of 3 games this past weekend at the Chicago White Sox.
The Rocks lost on Friday 6-1, as TJ Rumfield provided the 1 with a solo home run.
Colorado won on Saturday 9-6, thanks to a solo shot from Ezequiel Tovar, while Hunter Goodman blasted a solo shot and a 3-run homer for the cause.
The Rockies lost the rubber game of the series yesterday 4-2.
Cole Carrigg went yard for 1 of the 2.
Colorado finishes the season with a record of 58-104, which is the 4th year in a row that the team finishes a season with 100 losses or more, but it is a 15 game improvement from last year.
The Major League Baseball playoffs start tomorrow, with the best 2 out of 3 wild card round.
In the National League, Philadelphia goes to Atlanta, while the Chicago Cubs travel to San Diego.
Milwaukee and the LA Dodgers are the top 2 seeds and get a free pass into the next round.
The American League pairings have Boston at the New York Yankees, and the Chicago White Sox go to Houston.
Tampa Bay and Cleveland await the 2 surviving teams.
