Weekend Sports Recap: January 20-22, 2023

Sheridan County High School Sports teams had a pretty good weekend of competition.


Basketball: The Sheridan Bronc boys were victorious in their first 2 4A Northeast quadrant games, winning at home on Friday against Campbell County 66-61, and then on Saturday they went on the road and took down Thunder Basin, who are the defending state champs, 51-46.

The Broncs are 8-3 on the season, with a 2-0 record in the 4A Northeast.

Things did not go as well for the Sheridan Lady Broncs as they lost at home vs. Campbell County on Friday 51-47, and then lost on Saturday at Thunder Basin 59-52.

The Sheridan girls have a record of 7-4 on the season with an 0-2 record in the 4A Northeast.

Both teams are back in action on Friday at home vs. Natrona, and then Saturday they play at Worland.

The Tongue River boys and girls swept their weekend games.

The Eagle boys won on Friday at Riverside 81-46, and then on Saturday they won at home vs. Wright 77-67.

TR is 11-1 on the season, with a 2-0 record in the 2A Northeast.

The Lady Eagles also took care of business on Friday at Riverside, winning 39-33 and won at home against Wright on Saturday 40-36.

Both Tongue River teams are back in action Thursday at home vs. Kaycee, and Saturday at home vs. Greybull.

The Big Horn boys and girls basketball teams only had 1 game this past weekend.

It was a 2A Northeast quadrant game at Sundance.

The boys won 65-45, to move their record to 11-2 and 1-1 in the 2A Northeast.

The BH girls dropped a 65-64 heart-breaker on Saturday.

Their record is now 3-10, with an 0-2 mark in the 2A Northeast.

Both the Rams and Lady Rams have a very busy week as they play Thursday at Greybull, Friday at Wright, and Saturday at home against Rocky Mountain.

The Arvada-Clearmont basketball teams started 1A Northeast quadrant play this past weekend.

The Panthers lost at Upton on Friday 60-16 and then lost at home vs. Hulett on Saturday 50-to-18.

The boys currently are 0-10 on the season.

The Lady Panthers split their weekend games, losing on Friday at Upton 64-22, and then winning at home vs. Hulett on Saturday 36-31, to move their record to 3-6.

Both A-C teams are back on the court Tuesday at home vs. the Campbell County sophomore team, then on Friday they play at Kaycee, and Saturday at home vs. Guernsey-Sunrise.


Wrestling: The Sheridan boys placed 2nd and the girls were 3rd at the Moorcroft Mixer.

The Tongue River boys placed 13th.

Sheridan will wrestle a dual at Natrona on Thursday, and then Friday and Saturday it’s the big Ron Thon tournament at Riverton.

TR is scheduled to wrestle on Saturday at Hardin, Montana.


Boys Swimming:

In boys swimming, the Bronc swimmers and divers won a home dual meet vs. Kelly Walsh on Friday 107-69.

They are back in the pool for their final home meet of the season Tuesday against both Campbell County and Thunder Basin and then on Friday they will be at an invitational at Gillette.


Indoor Track and Field: Sheridan County indoor track and field teams competed in Gillette back on Saturday.

No teams scores were kept, but Sheridan had athletes finish in the top 3 in a total of 12 events.

The next indoor track and field meet is scheduled for this Thursday at Gillette.


University of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys picked up their first conference win of the season as they won at home on Saturday vs. Colorado State 58-57.

Noah Reynolds led all scorers with 17 points and hit the game winning free throws with 2 seconds remaining.

The Pokes are now 6-13 on the season with a 1-6 record in the Mountain West Conference.

They are back in action Tuesday at UNLV.

The Wyoming Cowgirls basketball team dropped their second straight game on Saturday as they lost at home against San Diego State 73-66.

The loss drops their record to 12-7, with a 5-3 mark in the conference.

The ladies are back on the court Thursday at Utah State.


Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won at home on friday against the Indiana Pacers 134-111, but lost on Sunday at home vs. Oklahoma City 101-99.

Denver’s next game is Tuesday at New Orleans.


Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche picked up 2 road wins, and have now won 5 in a row.

On Friday they won at Vancouver 4-1, and then on Saturday they won at Seattle 2-1.

The Avs are back on the ice Tuesday at home vs. Washington.


Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks Junior League Hockey team had the weekend off from competition.

They will play 2 games this weekend at Rapid City.
