The Sheridan College Rodeo Team will have its chance to show what it can in the rodeo arena this weekend.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday (September 26th, 27th and 28th) is the Pat Hamilton Rodeo at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds, featuring college teams from the Central Rocky Mountain Region.

After 2 rodeo events in the 2025-26 season, the Sheridan College men are in 2nd place overall, largely due to the saddle bronc riders, who occupy 4 of the top 5 spots in the region.

Christopher Nelson is in 2nd place overall and he says the new riders have been able to carry momentum over from the recent high school season, while those who have returned have not forgotten what they have learned.

“Some of the younger boys are here and came off of a really good summer and just kind of keeping the ball rolling and we got really good practice horses, where we’re just taking advantage of them and then we go and transition into the rodeo and it’s great. We’re all kind of clicking at the same time, where my good buddy Jake Schlattmann, he just won Riverton and he’s been riding outstanding and then all the other boys are too.”

Head Coach Bobby Harris says having more numbers on the team is resulting in a lot of experience learned, which in turn breeds success.

“It’s no different than a freshman football player. You get a few phenoms once in awhile, but by the time they’re a junior or senior, they’re just more mature and they learn. Same thing in rodeo. These kids are older now, but then when you bring in other kids that have the same talent, and they push each other in the practice pen, the old saying iron sharpens iron, and we believe that 100% that if we have to beat the people in our practice pen to win something before we go anywhere, then we’re ready. We don’t have to worry about who’s at the rodeo. If we can compete in our own practice pen, we’re ready to go compete.”

Competition starts on Friday with slack at 12-noon, and a rodeo performance at 6pm.

Slack starts again on Saturday at 9am and the rodeo performance is at 3pm.

The championship short-go is scheduled to begin on Sunday at 10am.
