Practice for the Wyoming High School Spring Sports Season started on Monday (March 10th) and for Sheridan, it meant the start of a new varsity sport.

The Lady Broncs took to the field for their first official practice of the school’s inaugural season in softball.

Sheridan is one of 3 new teams in the state, bringing the total to 16, and this year will be the 5th year of the varsity sport in Wyoming.

Sheridan Head Coach Kristen Czaban says through the off-season workouts and even before then, she has some idea as to what this year’s team is going to be like.

“A lot of these girls have played travel ball together for a long time. They’ve played several years, so there’s a lot of experience on this team, even though it’s pretty young. I think we’re going to be really competitive and we’re just going to go out there and do awesome.”

Although the players will wear Sheridan Lady Bronc uniforms, not all of them are from Sheridan High School.

The team has a co-op agreement with other schools such as Big Horn, Tongue River and even Buffalo.

Taylin Hatch is a senior from Buffalo.

She says even though her school doesn’t offer the sport, she’s grateful that there’s a team about half an hour drive away that’s giving her an opportunity to play.

“I thought I would never get the chance to represent a high school, especially in Wyoming and so just being able to even play softball in Wyoming, because I always had to go to Colorado every weekend, or even further sometimes, so it was just nice to be able to represent Wyoming in a high school and actually get to play.”

The first game of the season is scheduled for Friday, March 21st in Cheyenne.

The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, March 29th vs. Thunder Basin.

All home games will be played at the Sheridan College softball fields.
