Tongue River/Big Horn 2025 State Basketball Tournament Recap – Day 2
The Tongue River girls will attempt to defend their championship, the Big Horn girls get to play 1 more game, and the season ended for the Big Horn boys.
Tongue River Girls: Offensive rebounds (17-6) and second chance points (13-4) worked in favor of the Lady Eagles as they would defeat the Lady Bobcats 62-49 in the semi-finals and earn a return trip to the state championship game.
Emma Sopko scored 17 points, Paxten Aksamit added 15, and Chaney Reish had a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds).
Afton Cummins also had 11 assists.
TR (24-1) will go up against Wyoming Indian for the 2A State Championship game, on Saturday (March 8th) at 5:30pm at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.
Big Horn Girls: The Lady Rams’ bench helped keep the season alive (22-5), as the team defeated the Lady Punchers 57-44 in the consolation round.
Ava Taylor led Big Horn with 17 points, while starter Maui Orem put in 12.
Senior Emme Mullinax had 12 rebounds and was 1 point away from a double-double.
BH also found more ways to get to the free throw line, as the ladies were 15 of 20 from the charity strip, while BP was 6 of 8.
Big Horn (16-12) will conclude their 2024-25 season against Pine Bluffs in the 2A Consolation Championship game, on Saturday (March 8th) at 9am at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.
Big Horn Boys: Wright took advantage of an emotionally drained Rams team that was still trying to recover from their opening round overtime loss, and ended BH’s season 66-49, in the consolation round.
The Panthers were quick to score 30 points in the 1st quarter and shot 60% in the first half, before gradually letting off the accelerator.
Cruz Hernandez and Caleb Adsit scored 10 points each for Big Horn, who end the 2024-25 season with a record of 11-16.
